Trouble for Buss Group

The Buss group, the third biggest operator in the Port of Hamburg, is to close its Buss Hansa Terminal at Shed 80/81 in the Steinwerder area by the end of 2016

The City State of Hamburg’s bid for the Summer 2024 or 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games would appear to settle, once and for all, the future of the Steinwerder Dock, and raises new questions about the future of the 150-odd businesses that occupy it, including HHLA’s Unikai Terminal, Buss Hansa Terminal (BHT), Buss Ross Terminal (BRT) and Buss Kuhwerder Terminal.

Hamburg-based Buss Group is caught up in a row about a compensation payment made to it in 2009 by Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) in connection with the since cancelled plans to develop a new container terminal at Steinwerder Hafen.

The extension of Buss group’s two leases at the Steinwerder area in Hamburg until the end of 2016 mean that the port authority has pushed back its “Central Terminal Steinwerder” plan at least until 2017
