Kotka and Hamina are often regarded as “twin ports” because of their proximity and their common operation by Steveco Oy. Today, however, they are sharply divided over container traffic, following Steveco’s decision last year to concentrate container operations in Kotka, even though Hamina had already built a new, dedicated container terminal.
