The Class IV Seine-Nord canal project is widely regarded as a matter of future fact and, in some quarters, a commissioning date of 2015 is spoken of. However, the financing, to be split between public and private funds, has yet to be settled.

Voies Navigables de France (VNF) and other canal promoters have been anticipating that funds would be available from a major issue of public bonds to be launched by the French government next year.
