Liebherr cranes in Antwerp

News-in-print

Heavy lift ship HHL KOBE arrived in Antwerp from Ireland in the first week of August with the pieces of two new Liebherr STS cranes destined for the Antwerp Gateway terminal, operated by DP World. They will be assembled at the Delwaidedok by Liebherr engineers, in association with Sarens, and will then be transported to Antwerp Gateway at Quay 1700.

The new cranes are among the biggest and fastest supplied by Liebherr, with SWL under spreader of 85t (understood to be for twin 40 with RAM SingFlex), a 68m outreach (25-across) and a height under spreader of 52m, on a rail span of 30.48m.

DP World Antwerp currently has nine STS cranes (six from Kalmar and three from ZPMC), of which five were raised by 6-7m during the past few years in order to be able to service the newest generation of container ships.

The new Liebherr cranes will be run through a number of technical tests before they start operations at the beginning of next year, ahead of schedule.
