Eye on the cold chain
NewsAndy Connell from Dole South Africa calls for better cargo management and less political interference in cold chain logistics.
Dole Ocean Cargo Express (DOCE), which is an operating unit of Dole Food Company, has started a new service connecting ports in South and Central America with the north eastern region of the US.
The new operation, which uses 2 x 2,400TEU capacity vessels with a large number of plugs installed for reefer containers, offers direct calls on a weekly basis at Santa Marta, Colombia, Puerto Castilla, Honduras, Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, and Wilmington (Delaware) in the US.
In the northbound direction, the service will carry mainly the company’s own branded fruit, such as bananas, pineapples, dragon fruit, mangoes and limes. Southbound, packaging materials and other supplies needed to support Dole Food Company’s agricultural and food processing activities will be moved.
“Dole is excited to expand our service level into the US Northeast, bringing even more fresh tropical fruit to market,” said Nelson Montoya, President of Dole Fresh Fruit North America. “Both existing and future Dole customers can be equally excited at this growth in our service as we continue our journey to make the world a healthier place.”
