Hapag-Lloyd signs contract for 24 newbuildings
NewsHapag-Lloyd has contracted Chinese shipyards to build 24 new container ships, with a total capacity of 312,000 TEU, for US$ 4b, to be delivered by 2029.
Despite much softer freight rates and rising costs, Hapag-Lloyd maintained its profitability in the third quarter of 2023, partly because of increased liftings. But CEO Rolf Habben Jansen warned of a changing situation if rates did not pick-up.
