The pre-owned, German-built container ships have been acquired from Norwegian regional operator MPC Container Ships ASA
The vessels are AS FLORA, with an intake of 1,221 TEU, AS ROBERTA and RAFAELE, both with an intake of 1,440 TEU.
Boasting the largest container fleet in Turkey, shipowner Lucien Arkas has thus taken its fleet size to 50 vessels, and increased aggregate capacity to 87,335 TEU.
Arkas operates scheduled weekly services linking the Black Sea, Mediterranean and West Africa – a total of 35 services calling at 68 ports, all with owned ships. It also operates six bunker barges an one bulk carrier.
The company is taking steps to replace its older, low CII performance ships in accordance with IMO norms and has redcued its overall emissions by 21% since 2011. The aim is to reach a 30% reduction by 2025.
