Making the most of a place in the sun
NewsVincent Champion reports on new and proposed solar installations in ports at three different latitudes, Stockholm, Valletta and Hong Kong, and also a ‘surprise’ from a large warehouse in Belgium.
Over a recent two-month period, Bolloré Logistics transported 30,000t of equipment for a photovoltaic solar farm project in the Atacama region of Chile.
The project involved delivering 10 containers per day, six days a week, from the Port of Angamos to the site of Diego de Almagro, around 500 km away.
To execute the project, Bolloré Logistics Chile made an exclusive agreement with a road transport company in the Atacama region. The main challenges were obtaining the required certifications to enter the work site as well as managing the rotation of trucks to coordinate simultaneously the loading and delivery operations.
The Diego de Almagro Solar project is managed by Colbún, the largest power generation company in Chile. It operates 25 power plants in Chile and Peru, through which it has a total installed capacity of 3,893 MW, distributed through different types of generation technologies.
Diego de Almagro Solar Park is part of Colbún’s investment plan in renewable energies. Its installed capacity is 230 MW and its operation will prevent the emission of almost 325 Mtpa of carbon dioxide equivalent.
