German forwarder consolidation

Gebrüder Weiss, the Lauterach (Austria)-based logistics group, is expanding its operations in the US through the acquisition of the Salt Lake City-headquartered freight forwarder Cargo-Link.

DFDS, which operates one of the most extensive freight and passenger ferry networks in the North Sea, Baltic Sea and eastern Mediterranean regions, is spending approximately €200M to buy Tarifa (Spain)-based FRS Iberia/ Maroc, a leading operator of ferry services across the Gibraltar Strait.
