Kiwis inspect every container

New Zealand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) has begun implementing what it calls the “world’s strictest biosecurity standards for sea containers,” requiring every import container to be inspected both inside and out for pests and other unwanted organisms. Some 450,000 containers are unloaded at NZ ports each year and the current inspection rate of 10-25 percent, although high by international standards, has not proved adequate.
