The world’s biggest MHC increases offshore wind farm load-out capacity for Blue Water Shipping. Separately, Liebherr has inaugurated the new TCC 78000 heavy duty gantry crane at its plant in Rostock

The world’s largest port mobile crane, a Liebherr LHM 800, has arrived, on schedule, in the Danish port of Esbjerg, for operation by Blue Water Shipping. Self-weight of the crane is around 800 tons. Maximum boom radius is 66m.

Esbjerg’s LHM 800 is a 4-rope crane with a very tall counterweight stack, like the one shown left being delivered in 2015 to Bronka, Russia. As such, it has a maximum lift capacity of more than 300 tons on the hook. It will be used by Blue Water Shipping in tandem with another Liebherr mobile harbour crane to perform a maximum lift of 448 tons.

Dennis Jul Pedersen. CEO of the Port of Esbjerg, said. “The new crane considerably increases our capacity for offshore wind farms and other heavy project cargoes.”

The new crane was shipped fully-erect from Rostock on a Rolldock ship, ROLLDOCK STORM, and was able to roll off using its own power. This operation was handled by Blue Water Shipping, as appointed stevedore for the vessel.

Separately, Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH has officially inaugurated its new heavy-duty gantry crane, TCC 78000, at its Rostock plant. Thanks to a through crane rail link, it can be used not only by Liebherr to support loading and assembly of ever larger maritime cranes from its own production, but can also be made available to other companies in the Port of Rostock, providing them with the opportunity to handle heavy loads.

The TCC 78000 is of one of the world’s most powerful rail-mounted potral cranes, with lifting capacities of up to 1,600 tonnes.

VIPs at the ceremony included Harry Glawe, Minister of Economics, Employment and Health of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania; his ministerial colleague Christian Pegel, Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Digitisation; and Liebherr family members Mrs Patricia Rüf and Mrs Stéfanie Wohlfarth.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Liebherr family and senior political figures
