Cuxport for breakbulk

In-Depth

Cuxport, the Cuxhaven port operator co-owned by Rhenus (74.9%) and HHLA (25.1%), recently handled a project consignment for the German
agent of NYK Bulk & Projects.

Crane parts for Liebherr cranes were loaded on board the Japanese carrier’s geared bulker IMARI for shipment from the German port to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

Cuxport was well-located for this shipment, being situated between Liebherr crane fabrication plants in Rostock and Sunderland. A coastal vessel delivered the 36m-long jibs made in Rostock, while the tower parts were transported to Cuxport from Sunderland in the UK on a heavy-duty truck shipped on a DFDS ro-ro freighter from Immingham.

Other wheeled and breakbulk cargoes were loaded aboard the vessel by a Liebherr LHM 400 mobile harbour  crane belonging to Cuxport, with stowage and load securing executed in cooperation with local stevedoring company Atlantik Hafenbetriebe.

“As a multipurpose port, we always keep our eyes open for all kinds of cargo, and we can even handle oversized and heavy loads very efficiently,” said Oliver Fuhljahn, head of automobile logistics at Cuxport, who was responsible for the crane shipment project.
