Bangladesh to transition ports to landlord model

The Bangladeshi Government is to move towards a landlord system for the operation of its ports, while at the same time encouraging the development of specialised and dedicated cargo handling facilities. The moves come about as congestion gets worse, particularly in its main port of Chittagong, which processes over 90% of the nation’s maritime trade, and lines impose surcharges or even cut back on the number of sailings offered to/from the port.
