The Port of Dunkirk has revealed that last year inland moves by road were in an absolute minority, with 52% of tonnage conveyed by rail, barge or pipeline

Rail's share increased to 31%, including 320,000t of grains on top of the traditional rail mainstays of coal and iron ore. In addition, intermodal rail operator Greenmodal, part of CMA CGM, has continued to make rapid progress and in February this year it introduced a third weekly pairs link with Bonneuil-sur-Marne in the Paris region.

The share of barge transport came to 16%, including 1.3 Mt of grain shipments. In addition container barge operators Nord Ports Shuttle and Contargo doubled the lifts on their services to Lille, Lille-Dourges and Valenciennes respectively. This month NPS is intrducing a second barge.

Pipeline transport accounted for 5% of inland moves and is set to increase with the opening of the new LNG terminal.
