Port of Apapa hits 75

News-in-print

APM Terminals Apapa reached an important milestone this month when it handled 868 container moves from the 4,500 TEU capacity Safmarine CHAMBAL in 11 hours 30 minutes. The berth productivity rate was just over 75 berth moves per hour (bmph), the first time the terminal has crossed the 75 bmph mark.

APM Terminals Apapa is somewhat unusual, in that it operates MHCs with an RTG yard system. It has 11 MHCs, including three new Liebherr units.

To put the achievement in ontext, 75 bmph is 67% better than the top terminal (Durban with 45.2 bmph) in Maersk Line’s performance report on port productivity at Sub-Saharan African terminals in 2014.
