NY/NJ reopens terminals

The Port of New York/New Jersey is investing US$ 197.6 million to reconstruct and modernise berths at Port Newark for increased capacity.

The CMA CGM Group, which recently completed the acquisition of the Bayonne and New York container terminals operated by Global Container Terminals in the Port of New York/New Jersey, is to invest US$600M in the facilities and forge a new business plan for them.

NY/NJ saw its container throughput fall 20% in April, but the port held on to second spot in the US container port rankings on year-to-date figures.

The US Supreme Court has ruled that New Jersey can withdraw from the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.

All three ports saw container numbers decline in 2022, but Los Angeles held its position as the largest container port by volume in the US.
