Four vie for La Unión

El Salvador’s failure to find a concessionaire for the Port of La Unión (PLU) could leave it without a deepwater container handling facility and without the ability to develop a logistics network linking Central America’s Pacific and Atlantic coasts. This is the opinion of Alberto Arene, economist and former president of the country’s Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA).

The president of El Salvador’s Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA), Nelson Vanegas, has revealed that the concession for the port of La Unión will be ready before the first 100 days of the new government has been completed.

El Salvador’s legislative assembly has approved a bill that will allow national port operator CEPA (Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma de El Salvador) to concession the new port of La Unión to a private operator.
