SCCT gears up to handle bigger ships

After being struck by a vessel, a crane has collapsed and started a fire at the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said, Egypt.

Operations at Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), Egypt’s largest container handling facility, will be boosted by the decision of the Suez Canal Authority to dredge a new side channel to the main canal. It will mean that vessel calling at SCCT will not have to fine-tune their operations to fit in with the Suez Canal convoys. Currently, vessels are restricted to an eight-hour window.
