Kandla concession terminated

Twelve domestic and foreign consulting engineering firms have submitted bids to India’s Kandla Port Trust (KPT) to carry out a feasibility study for a new container terminal at Tuna-Tekra on the coast of Gujarat state.

As previously reported (see WorldCargo News January 2011, p21), Italy-based crane maker Italgru Srl has been working on an order from Kandla Port Trust in India for two model GS 1100P mobile harbour cranes. Kandla, in Gujarat state, is one of India’s leading ports, with a throughput of around 75 mtpa, mainly dry and liquid bulks.

Kandla, India’s largest port, will spend Rs50.81B (US$1.14B) over the next three years to expand its handling capacity to cope with rising cargo volumes.

Kandla Port, on India’s west coast, has invited expressions of interest from foreign companies willing to invest Rs120B (US$2.75B) to develop its satellite Port Tuna into a multi-purpose facility.

Two of India’s largest ports, Visakhapatnam (Vizag) and Kandla, have drawn up plans to develop infrastructure with private sector participation.

The first berth of a new container terminal at the Port of Kandla on India’s west coast has been put into operation by ABG Kandla Container Terminal Ltd (ABGKCT), which won a 30 year concession to develop and operate the facility in 2005.
