In phase one, a new 43 hectare container yard and 650m quay will be built. Additional works will include an administration building, warehouse, gates, and modern on-dock rail facilities to accommodate the growing volumes of intermodal traffic.
Equipment in the first phase will include seven superpost&8208;Panamax ship&8208;to&8208;shore gantry cranes (23 container outreach), as well as E-RTGs and other specialized equipment.
The terminal will undergo a phased expansion in accordance with provisions stipulated in the concession agreement. Once the final phase is completed, the terminal will offer a total area of 102 hectares, with 1,485m of quay with a water depth in the channel and alongside the quay of 16.5m. Total investment in the project is put at US$900M.
This will be the second container terminal at Lazaro Cardenas. The existing facility, which opened is 2003, is operated by Hutchison Port Holdings
