Kribi set for growth

Bulgaria’s two largest ports, Varna and Bourgas, are expected to post relatively strong growth in their cargo throughputs this year, as both container and dry bulk volumes increase. But both ports need to modernise their infrastructure if their medium-term and long-term goals to compete as gateways to the Balkans and Central Europe are to be realised.

While ports in Morocco and Egypt continue to plan expansions, a rival in Algeria also has designs on the transhipment market.

Qalaa Holdings has announced that it will sell its majority stake in Rift Valley Railways, the narrow gauge railway that runs from the Port of Mombasa westwards to Nairobi and Kampala. Meanwhile, progress is being made with the standard gauge “MoKaKi” line

ICTSI, which secured a 30-year concession to expand and operate the container and general cargo terminal in Puerto Cortes, Honduras, has awarded China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) the contract to construct phase one of the project.

Operadura Portuaria Centroamericana SA de CV (OPC), part of ICTSI, has signed a contract with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) for the first phase of the expansion of the container and cargo terminal in Puerto Cortes, Honduras, which it operates under a 30-year concession awarded in 2013.
