Krishnapatnam Port Company (KPCL) is hoping that the opening of a new on-dock rail terminal by Concor, the container transport arm of state-owned Indian Railways, will boost the port’s transit trade.

Krishnapatnam port on India’s east coast, which is controlled by Hyderabad-based CVR Group, has formally started operations at a new 1.2M TEU/year container terminal built at a cost of Rs55B (US$1.05B).

London-based private equity firm 3i Group, which has a US$1.2B infrastructure fund for India, is looking to make its third port investment in the country.

3i India Infrastructure Fund, established by London-based private equity firm 3i Group, has invested US$161M for a minority stake in Krishnapatnam Port Co (KPC).

Krishnapatnam Port Co (KPC), a family-owned start-up on India’s east coast, will invest US$1.6B in a new container and bulk port in a move designed to profit from the country’s growing trade with China.
