Port of Rotterdam launches Geofence system
NewsThe Port of Rotterdam’s new Geofence system notifies terminal planners and agents of vessel entry into a designated area to improve scheduling and cut CO2 emissions.
In 1H/2011, 215 mt of cargo were handled in the Port of Rotterdam, up 1% on 1H/2010. Incoming cargo increased by 2% to 153 mt and outgoing cargo decreased by 1% to 61 mt. Throughput of bulk cargo fell by 4% to 140 mt, while general cargo came out 12% higher at 75 mt. Containerised tonnage increased by 12.3% to 61.8 mt, with traffic in unit terms up 9.7% to 5.954M TEU.
