Container lines, through representative body Shipping Australia (SAL), are backing efforts to establish a port community information system in Australia’s major container ports from 1 March 2010.

On-line service provider Tradegate will implement PortBIS, a system that will enable freight forwarders, importers, exporters, shipping lines, transport operators, port authorities, stevedores, and container parks to exchange information to improve the efficiency of cargo movements through the ports.
