The market for MHCs is becoming more competitive, thanks to new technical solutions and new entrants.

In the Upper Ligurian, Spinelli has just ordered another Gottwald MHC from Konecranes Gottwald, this time a Model 7, for its container/multipurpose operation at Genoa Port Terminal (GPT). This is the fifth Gottwald ordered for GPT since 2013, and follows the delivery of a Model 8 crane late last year.

Following the delivery last year of three Gottwald Quaymate M50 MHCs to South Korea, in August, South Korean terminal operator Pyeongtaek Dangjin Central Terminal Co Ltd (PDCT) put a new Konecranes Gottwald Model 4 MHC into operation.

A number of equipment purchases have been or will be made in Central and South America: ? Brazil’s Loxus Logística has taken delivery of a new Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane in the Port of Imbituba in Santa Catarina to handle growing demand for dry bulk traffic.

The work that equipment OEMs are putting into electric drives for mobile handling equipment continues to grow.

A new Gottwald (now Konecranes Gottwald) MHC recently went into operation at the HHLA fruit terminal in Hamburg, where it is operated by Sea-Invest at the O’Swaldkai multipurpose terminal.
