Fourth terminal for JNP

With the introduction of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, APM Terminals-operated Gateway Terminals India (GTI) has shortened lead times and eased congestion in India’s busiest public harbour, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).

While most of the growth in container tracking is in cellular and satellite-based systems, a new project in India plans to use a network of RFID readers to track containers moving via truck and train between Delhi and Mumbai.

DP World and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) have formally signed the concession awarded to DP World to construct and operate a new container terminal at India’s largest box port.

DP World has received a Letter of Award from Indian government-owned Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to build and operate a new container terminal at India’s largest container port.

DP World, which already operates the Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP), has emerged as the sole bidder for the concession to develop a new container terminal at India’s busiest port.

The number of containers passing through India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) in the year ended March 2012 hit a record 4.32M TEU, up 1.5% from a year earlier.
