The Kenyan government has announced that Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is to speed up the modernisation of the Port of Mombasa. Nairobi has also decided that public private partnerships (PPPs) are the best method of improving efficiency while retaining state control of the port.

Kalonzo Musyoka, the vice president in the new government of national unity, said: “Public private partnerships are the best way to improve the handling of cargo at the port of Mombasa and movement of goods in East Africa and the Great Lakes region.”
