ADB pulls the plug on scanners

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is refusing to provide funding for six container scanners being acquired by the Port of Chittagong, after the port authority annulled an initial contract with the supplier that had provided the most competitive bid in the original tender.

The decision to re-tender the contract prompted ADB to decline to provide any further finance. The scanners, which were originally looked into by the port in 2003, were to have been included in a US$30.06M loan agreed by the bank.
