VCT hand strengthened?

Cobelfret has appealed to the Dutch Council of State to revoke the environmental permit awarded in August to Verbrugge group to develop Verbrugge Container Terminal (VCT) in the Port of Vlissingen (Flushing), part of Zeeland Seaports (ZSP).

In exchange for its 50% stake in the ESM joint venture, the Port of Rotterdam is set to obtain almost 25% of Zeeland Seaports

As reported in last month’s WorldCargo News, (p19), the first phase of Scaldia Container Terminal (SCT) in Vlissingen (Flushing) is scheduled to be ready in the second quarter of 2010. The Belgian joint venture partners, Sea-Invest (70%) and Zuidnatie (30%) have a target for 1M TEU/year and say they are aiming for water mode (feeder, shortsea and inland barge operations) to account for no less than 65% of deepsea containers handled.

The first phase of the first dedicated container terminal anywhere in Zeeland Seaports (ZP) is due to come on stream in Vlissigen (Flushing) in the second quarter of 2010.

Although it has issued a public tender for a 48 hectare area in the Quarleshaven that a Eurogate and Verbrugge partnership is known to be targeting as a new container terminal (see last month’s WorldCargo News, p16,), Zealand Seaports (ZP) says it will begin construction of the quay wall for the planned 600,000 TEU/year South Sea Terminal in East Flushing in early April.
