Buttressed by the country’s strong economic growth, India’s imp/ex trades have been growing strongly as well as the proportion of containerised cargo to total cargo handled at the country’s ports. Container traffic at the major ports came to 4.74M TEU, equivalent to 59.73 Mt in 2005-06 and was projected to grow by an average of 15.6%/year to reach 15.1M TEU (181.2 Mt) by 2013-14, according to the INSA annual review for 2005-06.
