Oakland aims for the big six

The Port of Oakland is aiming to cater for a throughput of 6M TEU/year by 2020, representing growth of 250% over the 2.4M TEU it handled last year. US containerised imports from China are forecast to double by 2020 and, even allowing for the enlargement of the Panama Canal, USWC ports will still have to perform as intermodal gateways for the midwest and east.
