Oakland aims for the big six

The Port of Bellingham received a US$ 17.9 million grant to reconnect its terminal to the BNSF main line, improving transportation efficiency by 2028.

BNSF Railway (BNSF), North America’s largest intermodal rail, GMXT, the largest operator of freight rail services in Mexico and JB Hunt Transport Services Inc, one of the largest supply chain solutions providers in North America, are to cooperate in a new intermodal rail service linking Mexico with the US. The trains are routed via the Eagle Pass, Texas border crossing.

Lowell, Ark, based JB Hunt, which is one of the US’s largest trucking, intermodal and logistics services companies, is to buy the brokerage operations of BNSF Logistics, which is a business unit of BNSF Railway.

“U.S. exports have been hampered by vessel schedules thrown into disarray in China,” said Port of Oakland Maritime Director Bryan Brandes.
