Kazakhstan plans new China-Russia transit route
NewsKazakhstan is developing a new trade route from China to Russia via the Irtysh River, with a port and railway planned, aiming for completion by 2026.
National Container Company (NCC), Russia’s largest container terminal operator accounting for 43% of the country’s throughput in 2006, finally started construction of Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) at the Russian Baltic port of Ust-Luga in April this year.
Construction should have begun last year and the delay led Russia’s transport ministry to threaten to revoke NCC’s private funding licence and opt instead to finance construction from public funds, which would have entailed organising a new tender for the operating concession.
