Dutch ports up in first half

The port of Rotterdam handled 196 mt of cargo in the first half of 2007, 4.2% more than the same period last year. General cargo accounted for virtually all of the growth, up 11.7% to 64 mt, with roro up by 28% to 8 mt and container traffic up 11% in tonnage to 51 mt and 13% in units to 5.3M TEU. The increase in container traffic was even more marked at the deepsea terminals despite strikes by tugmen at the start of this year, which cost around 2% growth.
