KGLPI wins Tanzanian port deal

AIPH has signed a 30-year deal with the Tanzania Ports Authority to manage Dar es Salaam’s Container Terminal 2, which handled 820,000 TEU in 2023.

The new president of Tanzania has announced that her government will seek to restart the stalled project to build a new port at Bagamoyo. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who became the country’s first female president after the previous incumbent, John Magufuli, died in March, has sought to revive several big infrastructure projects.

Three new ZPMC low-profile cranes are on their way from Shanghai to Boston, US. The cranes were ordered by the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) as part of the redevelopment of its Conley Container Terminal.

The Government of Tanzania has announced that 39 new locomotives and 800 freight wagons will be acquired for the redeveloped Central Line linking the town of Kigoma on Lake Tanganyika and Dar es Salaam, via the nation’s capital Dodoma.

Tanzania’s largest port, Dar es Salaam, is to open a ro-ro terminal that will be capable of handling 600,000 vehicles a year. The new facility, which will have the capacity to store 3,000 vehicles at any one time, is scheduled to open in September this year.

The Tanzanian Government has secured US$1.46B in funding from Standard Chartered, the UK-based banking group. The money will be used to support the construction of the second stretch (426 km) of the country’s high-speed standard gauge rail (SGR) network. This stage will connect Morogoro and Makutupora in the country’s Dodoma region.
