Gothenburg aside, Swedish ports are mainly associated with ro-ro services catering for Sweden’s forestry, steel and other neo-bulk exports and general cargo traffic. Gothenburg is of course, also Sweden’s main ro-ro port, but no other port comes anywhere near its scale as a lo-lo container port. However, significant new investments have been made or are planned, particularly on the east coast, and these pose a challenge to Gothenburg’s gateway role.
