Congestion at the Lagos ports in Nigeria has prompted the government to direct vessels waiting for berthing space to move to ports in the east of the country where, in marked contrast, there have been no reported delays.

Last month transport minister Abiye Sekibo and the presidential task force on port decongestion directed the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to ensure that vessels were moved to the east.
