After almost two decades, the Port of Helsinki’s Vuosaari project finally looks set to become a reality. In a sense the delay has been fortuitous as land values have risen considerably and the City of Helsinki, as owners of the existing port land, is looking at a profits “windfall.” The port’s managing director Heikki Nissinen considers that week 46 in 2008 will see the startup at Vuosaari and hopes the move will be virtually complete by the end of 2008.
