Nacala not for Tertir

Mozambique and Malawi signed an agreement to enhance trade by leasing part of the Port of Nacala to Malawi for developing a dedicated terminal.

The African Development Bank has agreed to finance dredging work at the Port of Bissau in the West African state of Guinea-Bissau

According to Portugal’s 2016 state budget, a decision on a new container terminal to serve the capital, Lisbon, will be made later this year. The official preferred location is Barreiro, although this is controversial (WorldCargo News, April 2015, p17).

Istanbul-based Yilport Holding is expanding its marine terminal and logistics activities by buying Portugal’s largest port management company Tertir.

Terminal XXI, the PSA International and Tertir Group concession at the Portuguese port of Sines, has inaugurated its Phase IB development. This encompassed extending the deepwater berth by 350m to 730m and enlarging the container yard from 20 to 25 hectares.

The government of Mozambique hopes that the government of Japan will help to fund the redevelopment of the port of Nacala in Nampula Province, which was damaged in a cyclone in 2001, but Maputo believes can become a major container and dry bulk handling centre.
