Bananas back in Rotterdam

After a gap of more than 20 years, banana traffic has returned to Rotterdam in the shape of a new weekly service by Dutch reefership operator Seatrade. Some 1200 tonnes of palletised bananas and pineapples, from Kingston and Port Antonio in Jamica and Puerto Mimon in Colombia, were unloaded from the first vessel to call, CAPE PALMAS, by Seabrex at Rotterdam Fruitport in the Merwehaven. The stevedore could handle a total of 100,000 tonnes in the first year.
