Leading German trailer builder Kögel Fahrzeugwerke has called for the allowable maximum gross weight and length of semi-trailers to be increased to 48 tonnes (ie 54 tonnes gvw) and 18.75m, as a more practical and safer solution to congestion than the “Nordic” 60 tonne gvw, 25m long road train currently under discussion in Europe.
