Nighttime and weekend operating hours may be coming to North America’s two largest ports by the year end. The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have filed documents with the US Federal Marine Commission that, if approved, will authorise more operating hours in an effort to significantly boost capacity during a 24 hour period, reduce truck idling times and cut back on highway traffic during rush hours.
