Upgrade for Banias

Syria has drawn up plans to upgrade its Mediterranean port of Banias in an attempt to strengthen trade links with Europe. Syrian officials in Damascus confirmed the plans, but declined to clarify whether the refurbishment is intended to prepare the facility for possible future exports of Iraqi oil through Banias, which is linked through a pipeline to Iraq’s oilrich Kirkuk region.
