In a surprise move, Santos Brasil has been appointed temporary operator of a car terminal in Santos, and will prepare the way for the export of the new VW model, the Tupi, when it rolls off the assembly lines in 2004. The arrangement gives Santos Brasil, which expects to handle around 620,000 TEU this year, access to an extra berth, helping it towards an annual capacity of close to 1 mill TEU at its Guaruja facility.
