Brisbane shuffle

The Port of Brisbane Corporation (PBC) has been forced to reschedule the relocation of motor vehicle and general stevedoring operations from upriver Hamilton to Fisherman Islands at the mouth of the Brisbane River following delays to Patrick’s new automated container terminal (see WorldCargo News April 2005, p1).

Worldwide container trade growth has been reflected in bumper container throughput figures for Australia’s four leading box ports.

The Port of Brisbane Corporation (PBC) and Queensland Transport have begun trials with Super B-Double trucks at the Port of Brisbane. The trucks are being used to transport containers between the shipping terminals, the PBC’s rail terminal (the Brisbane Multimodal Terminal) and container parks.

Four companies have collected request for proposal (RFP) documents for developing the Rs15.20 bill (US$310 mill) Gangavaram port project in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

India’s Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (APIIC) has shortlisted seven of the 10 companies that submitted expressions of interest in a Rs15.20 bill (US$310 mill) project to develop the port of Gangavaram as a major port (see WorldCargo News November 2001, p9).
