Keith Svendsen’s appointment as CEO-designate of APM Terminals was announced in April and has now taken over from Morton Engelstoft. There has, in fact, been a 4-month hiatus, since Engelstoft resigned in March. Svendsen’s previous position as COO has been filled, on an interim basis, by Jack Craig. The company is looking towards more automated operations and Craig is now in the “hot seat.” Craig is also directly responsible for decarbonisation.
Oakland, CA, USA: Barbara Leslie, President of Oakland Chamber of Commerce, is taking on the added role of President of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Oakland. Leslie will lead the seven-member board that sets policy for Oakland’s port authority. She succeeds Commissioner Andreas Cluver, who steps down after two years as Board President.
As announced on June 10, 2022, Anders Svensson has been appointed as Konecranes’ new President and CEO. He will assume his role on October 19, 2022, approximately 1.5 months earlier than previously communicated. Konecranes had planned to host a Capital Markets Day in the autumn of this year. As Svensson joins the company in October, Konecranes has decided to postpone the CMD to HI 2023. The exact date will be announced later.
Franck Kayser, having worked for several international shipping companies, including Diana Shipmanagement, ITM International Tanker Management and V Ships, is now COO of Oman Shipping Company, based in Muscat, Oman.
As of October this year, Mathieu Girardin will head the ferry division of DFDS. Girardin was until recently a SVP of CMA CGM, in charge of of shortsea service operations in Europe – OPDM, MacAndrews and Containerships, all operated under the Containerships brand. He will succeed Peder Gellert Pedersen, who will be retiring after some 28 years with DFDS.
McLean, VA, USA: Cakeboxx Technologies, the 2-piece shipping container sepcialist, has appointed Sean Tan as CTO, with a particular focus on the automotive, energy, aerospace and defense sectors. Tan brings more than 25 years experience as a senior mechanical design engineer at Caterpillar, JRB and Pratt & Whitney, among others.
Lloyd’s Register has appointed Chakib Abi Saab as its Chief Technology and Innovation Officer (CTIO), a newly-created role with the company. Abi-Saab was previously with Bahri (formerly known as the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia), and before that held executive posts in ship management and oil & gas companies.
Marco Galbati has been appointed CEO of Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG), a ship construction arm of Fincantieri, Europe’s largest shipbuilder. Appointed General Manager of FMG in 2018, Galbati now replaces Dario Deste, who stays on as President of FMG whilst also taking on a new role in Fincantieri.
Laurent Melanie has been promoted to EVP, Commercial and Marketing at Geodis, an Executive Committee post that reports directly to CEO Marie-Christine Lomabard. Melanie started his business career at Transports Graveleau and later joined Dachser, before moving to Geodis in 2011.
London, UK: Simpson Spence Young (SSY) has announced a number of new hires, who will be joining the Global Tanker team and SSY Finance in the US, all from Charles R Weber. They will joining existing teams in New York and Houston before the end of the year. Christos Alexandrou, who was co-Managing Director at Charles R Weber, has a 30-year career in shipbroking and has been based in the US since 1996. Christos Papanicolaou, the other co-Managing Director at C R Weber, brings over 20 years of tanker knowledge as well as experience in finance, S&P, and projects. Daniel Pletsch is a senior broker with over 15 years’ experience with C R Weber and was previously with MJLF. David Herman will also be joining from C R Weber, and has experience in finance and capital markets, having worked with several firms including Credit Suisse where he was the head of maritime investment banking.
