Ningbo-Zhoushan Port takes delivery of 42 electric terminal tractors from Sany.

Sany has delivered 42 electric terminal tractors to Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in Zhejiang Province, China, which is considered as the busiest port in the world by cargo throughput, handling over 1.2 billion tons annually. In terms of container handling, Ningbo-Zhoushan closely follows Shanghai, processing more than 100,000 TEU daily.

Each tractor boasts a range of 120 km, a battery capacity of 281.9 kWh, and a rapid charging time of 60 minutes. The latest delivery adds to the 100+ electric terminal tractors already in operation at the port.

Sany said that the tractors feature a battery management and energy recovery systems, which contribute to a 70% reduction in transport costs and a significant decrease of 2,000t in carbon emissions each year. Each tractor has the capacity to handle up to 300 TEU on a single charge.

For the first half of 2024, Sany reported operating revenue of 38.74b yuan (US$5.45b), down 1.95% year-on-year, while net profit increased by 4.80% to US$ 503m. The company’s international sales grew to 23.54b yuan (US$ 3.31b), representing 62.23% of total revenue, with Africa seeing a 66.71% rise. Sany is also ramping up investment in new energy R&D, launching over 80 products this year. These include the SW956E electric wheel loader, which has received an order for 200 units from Indonesia.
