Portchain, a Danish provider of berth alignment and planning software for container terminals and carriers, announced that Turkish container terminal Kumport Terminal Istanbul will join the Portchain Connect network.

The partnership will enable the terminal to integrate real-time updates for vessel schedules and cargo movements to improve berth alignment and communication by providing accurate data and allowing quick responses to schedule changes.

Portchain Connect streamlines the flow of schedule data to shorten the time to align the berthing window. The platform allows terminals and carriers to share and receive quality data and reduce delays in information transmission. Portchain Connect provides users with an overview of all their vessel calls so they can transfer berthing information, remove the costs associated with manual non-digitised communication and align on berthing windows to improve schedule reliability.

“Being part of Portchain Connect has transformed our approach to berth planning, automating data exchange and enhancing collaboration,” said  İlyas Gürsoy, Deputy Planning Manager of Portchain Connect.

“Our collaboration aims to enhance operational efficiencies in key aspects of port operations, setting a positive trajectory for the shipping industry digitisation,” added Thor Thorup, CCO & Co-Founder at Portchain.

Kumport, which started handling containers in 1996 after beginning with general cargo in 1994, connects to over 140 locations worldwide. The terminal covers 488,000 square metres, with a quay length of 2,174 metres, a draft of 16.5 metres, and three main berths. It also features warehouses of 10,400 square metres and a dedicated logistics park. The terminal operates nine ZPMC quay cranes.
