The Gothenburg Port Authority is seeking a new car terminal operator for a seven-year contract starting in 2026, valued at €10 million annually.

In 2023, Sweden’s largest port Gothenburg reported growth in most of its cargo handling sectors with container traffic registering a record performance.

Several new ports are being developed in Scandinavia as the region responds to the changing needs of the modern world.

Gothenburg’s rail freight terminal is to be relocated from the city centre to the Arken area, adjacent to the ro-ro terminal inside the port. The transfer should take place no later than the beginning of 2018, when the goods yard is due to be handed over to the city for redevelopment.

New locations are being sought for several ports, as authorities look for deeper water, less congested sites and greener solutions.
