Antwerp is set to become the starting point for two new international rail freight services. XPO Logistics is introducing a new multimodal route from Antwerp to Istanbul, while Kombiverkehr will operate a route to Madrid.

XPO Logistics’ 2,600-kilometre route between Antwerp and Istanbul will utilise both road and rail transportation, reducing transit time from 10 to 8 days, according to the company. In addition to the road-rail combination, XPO Logistics will offer a rail service between Duisburg and Trieste, allowing goods to continue their journey to Turkish Izmir via shortsea shipping.

Kombiverkehr is also launching a new intermodal rail service between the Combinant terminal in the Port of Antwerp and the Abroginal terminal in Madrid, starting on September 3. The company will provide transportation services for containers, swap bodies, and both safe and dangerous goods. Trains will operate twice a week.
