Container ship collides with bulk carrier off Sicily
Italian Coast Guard swiftly responded to a collision between a feeder container ship and a bulk carrier off Sicily, with no casualties reported.
On Monday, April 22, 2024, the Italian Coast Guard reported a collision between a feeder container ship and a bulk carrier 14 miles off the coast of Capo Passero, Sicily.
Responding swiftly, they dispatched an AW139 helicopter and an Atr42 plane.
The Coast Guard identified the ships only by their flags; Portuguese for the container ship and Liberian for the bulk carrier.
Thankfully, both vessels sustained minor damage and were guided to Augusta port. No consequences for the crews or damage to the marine environment were reported.
Both vessels will be subjected to a PSC inspection by inspectors from the Maritime Directorate in Catania.
